Sunday Night in Inverness, Scotland 15 May: The day started with a hearty breakfast at the B&B. What lovely people, it was so comfortable and everyone was so friendly. The sky was overcast as we left Edinburgh. Carmen Garmin led us through the streets of Edinburgh fairly successfully but I did think she was a little self indulgent! I am sure there was a quicker way. However we found the Forth Road Bridge just fine and headed up north. We stopped in Perth for diesel and filled up to the tune of 70 POUNDs! Multiply that by $1.65 and tell me you are feeling pain at the pump!!! However we did get 45 miles to the imperial gallon, and this is in a V6 Mercedes.
Our next goal was to tour the Famous Grouse Distillery just outside Crieff. Paul handled the narrow country roads with aplomb. The tour was interesting, and the tasting most welcome!
We had lunch there and then navigated the wee roads back to the A9 to continue to Inverness. There was a wee drizzle in the air, not enough to call rain, What we call a Scotch Mist in Scotland. Just enough to keep your skin nice and moist. By this time we are used to the cooler temperatures and feeling quite comfortable. We took a little detour through Newtonmore and Kingussie before we stopped for coffee in Aviemore. I used to go there when I was a girl. I had family there and used to go for the summer. How things have changed. I used to go skiing in the Cairngorms and Aviemore was just a little village then.

The Capital of the highlands is Inverness. The heavy clouds shrouded the A9 as we headed north. Yes we had some rain including a little this evening as we explored the backstreets for a dinnertime stop. The hotel is very old and elegant. The receptionist Caroline is very friendly and now we are resting after a very long day. Good night. Tomorrow will bring more adventures!
